What’s My Purpose?
For we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Eph.2:10 (NIV)
Are you like me in wondering “What’s my purpose?" I've spent a lot of time on this over the years. Rick Warren, author of Purpose Driven Life, answered that question, which seems to always be on our minds. We are here to glorify and serve God. (Brother, do we get in the way!) God prepares in advance what He wants us to do. Surely there’s more to it!
In my mind, I have always wanted to do the “Big Stuff,” like preaching, witnessing, singing (especially that one). God did not intend for me to SING! Phew! Got that off my chest! He intended for me to love others like Christ did. I still have a tendency to get up and do my stuff, not His stuff. So many times, His stuff would not be on my very neat schedule. Please don’t mess with my schedule!
But, it's time to change. Yes, old people can change. Maybe my prayer should be: God please mess with my schedule. All of your stuff is important. Mine, not so much; that cup of water can turn into a gallon of goodness.
Dear God, good morning. What do you have for me today? Make it be fun or clean
or easy - NO, that’s what I want. Make it be loving, kind, and merciful. You have
prepared this for me - for me - for me - let me do for you - for you - for you!
