Find Peace with Jesus
Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat, but Jesus was sleeping. - Matt. 8:24 (NIV)
Can you picture this? Did you notice that the author calls it a furious storm with the waves sweeping over the boat? When I was a young church-playing pianist, I used a song entitled, “Master The Tempest Is Raging” (Jesse Dixon) for offertories. I loved the way the song started off in a calm manner, built up to a huge climax, and then became totally peaceful as Jesus commanded the sea to stop.
Life is so like that now, even on a daily basis. We get up calmly, get on with our day, and then the pressures, disappointments, arguments, traffic, clutter, etc. build up. Are you screaming yet? Look for Jesus. I am having one of those days today as I write this. Is He in your room, in your car, in your life? Without Him, life is one continuous battle. You could drown in all your problems.
Oh, God, I am in the boat, and the waves are very high. I am so scared and don’t think I can handle anymore - wait, I see Jesus! No matter what I am going through, I can make it with Him. I can make it with Him. I can make it with Him. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus - there is something about that name! There is power in that name. I am going to leave you with the first verse of "Master The Tempest is Raging." Read it everyday. It’s for real.
Master, the tempest is raging Oh, the billows are tossing high The sky is o'ershadowed with blackness Oh, no shelter or help is nigh Carest thou not that we perish? How canst we lie, how canst thou lie asleep Asleep when each moment so madly is threat'ning A grave, a grave, a grave in the angry deep?
Get up, Jesus, because The winds and the waves shall obey thy will All you got to say is Peace, be still Peace, be still Peace, be still Peace, be still
