Be Kind Day

Updated: Mar 21

Therefore as God’s Chosen People, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Col. 3:12 NIV

I heard on TV, of all places, that it was “Be kind to each other” day. Therefore, I am going to write about kindness today and deal with compassion, humility, gentleness, and patience, later. I find it funny that the world decided to come up with a day for kindness when God has been pushing it for years.

Let’s define kindness: a type of behavior marked by acts of generosity, consideration, or concern for others without expecting anything in return (Oxford Lang.). It is one of the main topics in the Bible. I really like this definition because it includes “without expecting in return (mainly praise or reward). Do we actually do anything for others without expecting that “pat on the back”?

I had The Nick Cannon Show on TV when I heard it was Be Kind Day. Guess what Nick did? He was in a restaurant and picked up the tab for everyone there. I am trying to give him some accolades, but, then, I remembered that this is the same Nick Cannon that paid $1,000,000 for a pair of glittery shoes! I hope the people in the very nice restaurant where he was gave him the praise he was due, but this poor man doesn’t know the first thing about giving.

Kindness should come so easily for us. God has given us so much, including His Son. He is our kind, Heavenly Father. Shouldn‘t we pass that on? I am so fortunate to have had a kind earthly father. He was such a giving man, and in the world‘s standards a very poor man. Even though he died at a very young age, he lived each day with a big giving heart. He was never rich, but incredibly wealthy! Kindness was just an everyday part of his life.

Why would you not be kind? Think long and hard. Remember to treat others as you want to be treated. Have you heard that before?
